Serves: A Family of Four

Cooking Time: 15 to 40 Mins

Ingredients:

  • Beef (undercut, 1 cm slices) – 600 gms
  • For the Marinade:
    • Bancal Sauce or Wooster – 2 tbsp.
    • Soya Sauce – 1 tbsp.
    • Black Pepper (coarsely crushed) – 1 tbsp.
    • Juice of small lime
    • Oil – 2 tbsp.
    • Salt – ½ tsp.
  • For the Sauce:
    • Bancal Sauce or Wooster – 2 tbsp.
    • Soya Sauce – 1 tbsp.
    • Black Pepper (coarsely ground) – 1 ½ tbsp.
    • Corn Flour (dissolved in ⅓ cup water) – 1 tbsp.
    • Ketchup – 1 tbsp.
    • Butter – 2 tbsp.
    • Milk Cream – ¼ cup
    • Beef Stock – ½ cup
  • Sautéed Vegetables:
    • Carrot (thick strips) – 1
    • Brocolli Floret – 3 to 4
    • Baby Corn – 2
    • Butter – 1 tbsp.
    • Pepper Powder – ¼ tsp.
    • Salt – a pinch
  • French Fries (ready to fry) – click here
  • Eggs – as needed

Step 1:     Wash, drain and beat the beef slices with a meat mallet. Then marinate with all the ingredients listed in marinade, except the oil, for at least an hour (you can add ½ tbsp. of meat tenderizer if you feel the meat is tough)

Step 2:     Heat the 2 tbsp. of oil in a pan and sear the marinated beef slices for 2 minutes on each side. Add ¼ cup hot water. Place a flat steel plate or lid into the pan so that it rests on all the meat slices. Place some weight on this lid (I’ve used a small grinding stone). Then cook on low heat for 15 to 40 minutes till the meat has cooked well. Then transfer to a bowl /dish and keep covered (the cooking time will depend on the cut of meat, thickness and how rare you like it).

Step 3:     In the same pan, heat the butter for the sauce and add the black pepper, soya sauce, bancal sauce, and the ketchup and mix. Now add ½ cup beef stock and bring to boil. Then add the milk cream and the corn flour slurry and cook on medium heat till the sauce thickens.

Step 4:     Steam the carrots, broccoli and baby corn for 8 to 10 minutes. Then take a pan and add 1 tbsp. butter and saute the steamed vegetables. Sprinkle the salt and pepper on them.

Step 5:     Fry the French fries and plate the steaks in the center with the fries on one side and the fried egg and the sautéed vegetables on the other. Pour the sauce over the steak and serve hot.
