As the rains bring a shortage of fresh fish, we make use of our stash of dry fish in this season. The Dry Prawn Chilly Fry – with Coconut is one such dish that we make to serve with our rice and curries in Goa. It is simple to make. Try it soon. (For a recipe without coconut – click here)

Cooking Time: 25 to 30 Mins
Ingredients:
[Standard Measure: 1 cup = 250 ml]
- Dry Prawns (cleaned, heads removed) – ¾ cup
- Onions (chopped) – 2 large
- Green Chillies (chopped) – 2 large
- Green Corriander (finely chopped) – 1 to 2 tbsp.
- Coconut (grated) – 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp.
- Turmeric Powder – ¼ tsp.
- Sugar – 2 pinches
- Oil – 2 tbsp.
- Salt – a pinch
Step 1: Take the cleaned dry prawns in a bowl and rinse once. Then add enough water and soak for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Heat oil in a frying pan and add the onion. Sauté the onion till translucent. Then add the turmeric powder and mix.
Step 3: Add the green chillies and sauté for a minute. Now drain the dry prawns and add to the pan. Mix and add ¼ cup hot water. Cook covered on low heat for 12 to 15 minutes.
Step 4: Later, add the grated coconut and the sugar. Mix and cook covered for another 2 to 3 minutes. Switch off the heat and garnish with the 1 tbsp. of grated coconut and green corriander and keep covered for another 5 minutes before serving.
