The Goan crab curry is very simple and quick to make. The coconut gravy of the curry and the flavours of the crabs intermingle to give you a delightful and tasty curry. Serve it with hot unpolished parboiled rice and enjoy. πŸ˜†

Serves: 4 to 6 Persons

Prep. Time: 20 Mins.

Cooking Time: 35 to 40 Mins.

Ingredients:

[Standard Measure – 1 cup = 200 ml ]

  • Sea Crabs – 8 to 10 medium
  • Onion (finely chopped) – 2 medium
  • Tomatoes (finely chopped) – 2 medium
  • For the Masala Paste:
    • Coconut (grated) – 1 cup
    • Corriander Seeds – 1tbsp.
    • Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp.
    • Black Pepper Corns – 1 tsp.
    • Cinnamon – 2 inch
    • Cloves – 8 to 10
    • Light Green Chillies – 3 to 4
    • Garlic – 4 to 5 cloves
    • Turmeric Powder – Β Β½ tsp.
  • Tamarind (soaked in 1 cup hot water) – 1 Β½ lime sized balls
  • Light Green Chilly (slit) – 1
  • Veg Stock Cube – 1 (optional)
  • Turmeric – ½ tsp. (optional)
  • Sugar – Β½ tsp.
  • Oil – 3 tbsp.
  • Salt – 1 tsp.

Step 1:Β Β Β Β  Clean the crabs. Cut each one into two pieces and separate the claws.

Step 2:Β Β Β Β  Grind the ingredients for the masala into a fine paste.

Step 3:Β Β Β Β  Heat 3 tbsp. oil in a pan suitable to make the curry. Add the onions and saute on medium heat till soft. Next add the tomatoes and cook covered on low heat till the tomatoes are mushy (about 8 to 10 minutes)

Step 4:Β Β Β Β  Add the ground masala paste and fry well for 6 to 8 minutes on low heat. Next add the crabs and mix lightly. Add Β½ cup warm water, salt, sugar, Β½ tsp. turmeric powder (optional) and the crumbled stock cube (optional). Mash and strain the tamarind water into the pan. Add the slit chilly and cook covered on low heat for 15 to 20 minutes.
