The name says it all! Simple Beef Curry is a curry that you can cook up in no time. Eat with rice or kadak pao.
Serves: 6 to 8 Persons
Prep. Time: 15 Mins. + 60 Mins. (marination)
Cooking Time: 45 to 50 Mins.
Ingredients:
- Boneless Beef – 1 kg
- Onions (sliced) – 2 large
- Tamarind (soaked in 100 ml hot water) – 1 large lemon sized ball.
- Palm Vinegar – 1 ½ tbsp.
- Sugar – ½ tsp.
- Oil – 2 tbsp.
- Salt – 2 tsp.
- For the Masala:
- Cloves – 8
- Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp.
- Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp.
- Corriander Seeds – 2 tsp.
- Cinnamon – 1 inch
- Black Pepper Corns – 1 tsp.
- Garlic – 8 cloves
- Ginger – 1 ½ inch
- Light Green Chillies – 6 to 8
Step 1: Wash the beef and cut into one inch cubes. Drain well and apply salt and vinegar. Leave in the refrigerator for at least 60 minutes.
Step 2: Grind all the ingredients listed under masala to a fine paste.
Step 3: Heat the oil in a pressure cooker and fry the onions till light golden. Add the masala paste and fry for 3 to 4 minutes on low heat.
Step 4: Add the marinated meat and fry for 3 to 4 minutes. Add 1 ½ cup warm water and put the pressure cooker lid on and cook on high heat till one whistle. After 1 whistle, lower the heat and cook for 25 to 30 minutes depending on the cut of meat.
Step 5: Let the pressure cooker cool naturally. Open the lid and add the tamarind water and ½ tsp. sugar. Add 1 to 2 slit and deseeded green chillies (optional). Check for salt and add if required. Cook covered with an ordinary lid for a further 10 minutes. Serve with fried potatoes.
